DiabetesSisters is happy to be participating in the Seventh Annual Diabetes Blog Week! Today's prompt is: "Lets kick off the week by talking about why we are here, in the diabetes blog space. What is the most important diabetes awareness message to you? Why is that message important for you, and what are you trying to accomplish by sharing it on your blog? (Thank you, Heather Gabel, for this topic suggestion.)" Below is our blog post for day 1 of Diabetes Blog Week!
We, at DiabetesSisters, believe all women with diabetes should have access to a healthy support system that includes peers with diabetes. Living with diabetes presents us with great challenges that we may not otherwise face. Aren’t diabetes-specific life challenges easier to cope with around others who understand? We believe a healthy peer support system provides encouragement, empowerment, and education with the purpose of helping each woman reach her full potential in life.
The most important diabetes awareness message, to us, is that an empowered, informed woman with diabetes is a healthy woman with diabetes! We do our part to help this message become a reality for women with diabetes everywhere. DiabetesSisters remains dedicated to the idea that before a woman can take care of anyone else, she must first take care of herself. Therefore, we place a strong emphasis on nurturing her health and nourishing her spirit.
We believe that we are stronger together, and we advocate and work toward a future where all women are fully empowered to effectively manage their diabetes.
