Oh, yes! The holiday season is among us. The lights. The presents. The yummy foods. And of course... the diabetes police.
For those of you who are not familiar with the diabetes police, this would consist of any well-meaning person (or not) who feels it's their duty to "police" your food intake or activity. Normally I would take it upon myself to educated these people. However, during the holidays I may want to indulge in my favorite treats without someone speaking out against that idea.
Yes, I try to keep my numbers in check, but I have to admit it's difficult. There are so many temptations. Of course I often think, "Well, thery're having it. Why can't I?" It doesn't feel fair that I have to watch what I eat when it seems others are not. When I feel that someone is looking over my shoulder or watching me from across the room as I load up my plate, I remind myself that I am in control of my diabetes. I live with it day after day. I make sure to have plenty of non-strachy vegetables and proteins while allowing myself to have my favorite holiday treats in moderation.
And if I want to treat myself to a snickerdoodle, I'm going to enjoy it!
