sisterTALK Blogs

Welcome to the sisterTALK Blogs!

Are you new to diabetes? Did you recently find out you are expecting? Do you feel as though no one really understands what you go through on a daily basis? Are you terrified of doing something wrong? Would you like to hear about another woman’s struggles and triumphs with diabetes?

You can find exactly what you are looking for HERE at DiabetesSisters. Through our sisterTALK blogs, you will find an outstanding network of women who share their thoughts and feelings about the nuances of living with diabetes in weekly blogs. Whether you are experiencing Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, or pregnancy and diabetes, there is someone here who "speaks your language." Every woman is highlighted for 3-6 months to tell us about her diabetes journey in her own words. By rotating bloggers on a 3-6 month basis, our readers are allowed to read about many different perspectives on the disease. If you have something in common with our highlighted bloggers or have a thought to share, we invite you to comment below the blog. If you are interested in serving as one of our "highlighted bloggers", please email us at info@diabetessisters.org.

Healthcare Providers and Patients: A Stronger Partnership

Perspectives

On January 26th, 2018, Robin Wright, a patient with Type 2, psychotherapist and PODS Leader in Princeton NJ, delivered remarks at the opening panel discussion of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists meeting / CAP (Corporate AACE Partnership).  The subject was Identifying Access to Care, Identifying Unmet Needs of Patients and/or Clinicians and Generating Solutions to Address the Unmet Needs of patients.  We are pleased to bring you Robin's remarks in full:

All three times were the charm

Perspectives
If you’ve had type 1 diabetes (T1) for many years, you may have attended a diabetes camp as a child.I was diagnosed as an adult at the age of 48 so I never grew up knowing any other people with the same type of diabetes as me, or going to a diabetes camp where I could make friends and be with others who could truly understand what life is like living with our condition. Connected in Motion Catalina is like going to diabetes camp, but for adults.  It’s almost like going to a weekend-long DiabetesSisters meeting!

We Choose to Live

Perspectives
In October 2017, I attended the Weekend for Women Conference and DiabetesSisters Leadership Institute. Being surrounded by 150 people with diabetes left me awestruck. I attended many sessions led by brilliant, dedicated advocates for people with diabetes. I learned about the role that the glycemic index plays when trying to balance carbohydrate and insulin absorption from Gary Scheiner. I learned about the latest technology advances available and coming to us from Melissa Lee.

Well Worth the Distance Traveled

Perspectives

I was honored and blessed to attend the DiabetesSisters Leadership Institute and Weekend for Women conference in Alexandria, Virginia last weekend.  It was co-hosted by the Unconference as well.  There were so many friendships, so much knowledge gained, and appreciation for both organizations who  put their heart and soul into making life just a little bit better living with diabetes.
