Happy Fourth of July!

sisterSTAFF Blog

Happy Fourth of July!  I hope you are enjoying the holiday!  However, I have to admit that I really don’t like it when the 4th falls in the middle of the week.  It seems to confuse people and no one is sure exactly when to celebrate the holiday.

2012 ADA Scientific Sessions Part 1

sisterSTAFF Blog

Well, the 2012 Scientific Sessions are over and my brain is about to explode with all of the statistics, studies, facts, and new product information.  This year’s sessions were held in Philadelphia, PA.  While it is a great city with lots of beautiful landmarks, it was apparently too small to hold all 17,000 Session attendees.  Some attendees even had to stay in hotels in New Jersey and Delaware! (Note to self: Always book hotels rooms for ADA Sci Sessions well in advance!)

Partners In Patient Health

Hi again!  You almost forgot about me, right??  It has been quite a while since I last blogged, and so incredibly much has happened.  As I type this, I am mid-flight from Raleigh to Washington DC and it’s Tuesday, May 22 (2 days post-Conference).  I had hoped to be able to make the entire week after the Conference be “down time” for me.  But, I guess God had different plans for me...

Where have you been lately?

Sisters…I don’t even know where to begin.  For the first time since I started blogging back in January 2010- I missed writing a Weekly Blogs (or two…or maybe even three now!)  Things get so incredibly busy right before the Conference and this year has been busier than ever!  Of course, part of that has to do with the fact that our programs are growing bigger and branching out which requires more work.

Easter Week 2012

sisterSTAFF Blog

This was an exceptionally busy week, so I’m glad to be sitting down and taking a breath to write this blog.

For starters, our Weekend for Women Conference Planning Committee Meeting was on Monday night. In addition to finalizing plans for the Conference, we also stuffed envelopes for a mailing that will go out to UNC Diabetes Care Center patients about the Walk next week. Amazingly, we managed to stuff 4,000 envelopes (each stuffed with a folded letter and a bookmark) during our meeting. GO TEAM!!

2012 Medtronic Diabetes Advocate Forum

sisterSTAFF Blog

Well, I am on the final stretch of my journey to and from the Medtronic Diabetes Advocates Forum in Los Angeles, CA. You may recall that my daughter and my husband went with me last year and we attended the Kid’s Choice Awards afterwards. It was an awesome time! And it’s hard to believe that a year has passed since then. Now that I have been to a few of these kind of “Advocate Forums” and I know what to expect, I find myself a bit more relaxed.

Strength in Sisterhood

Last week I visited New York on business and had the opportunity to connect with many of my friends from the diabetes community at a meeting.  Then, I had the pleasure of visiting with a group of DiabetesSisters in Schenectady, New York and attending their PODS meetup.  I had a fabulous time!  Connie Hanham-Cain and Helen Morgan were fabulous hosts- not only to me, but also of their PODS meetup.  Very warm and welcoming!  If you are attending the Conference, you will have to meet these ladies!

Powerful Testimonials

sisterSTAFF Blog

Over the last few weeks, I have heard countless testimonials from women who have been positively impacted by DiabetesSisters.  Each time I hear one of these stories, (in addition to shedding a tear) I usually think, “Wow!  Who would have ever thought???”  When the concept of DiabetesSisters came to me over four years ago, I could not even imagine that four years later I would be receiving such touching emails and having such powerful conversations with women.  I have to admit that during those early periods of self-doubt, I would ask myself, “Is this organization making a difference?  Is it really worth all of the time and energy I am putting in it?”
