About the Speakers
Laura Russell, MA, RDN, LD, CDCES, is a seasoned Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with 20
years of experience and 15 years specializing in diabetes care and education. She has worked
in research, inpatient care, telemedicine, and outpatient clinics, focusing on diabetes
medication, technology integration, and weight management. A sought-after speaker, Laura
has presented at ADA, FNCE, and the Minnesota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She
serves as Chair of the Diabetes Dietetic Practice Group (2023-2024) and Foundation Chair for
the Minnesota Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
Gretchen Holmes, PhD, is the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and DIO at
Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has led GME programs at
multiple hospital systems, launching ten residency programs and achieving full accreditation
for existing ones. A published researcher in health communication and rural cancer
disparities, she has worked with the CDC and National Cancer Institute. Named a Top 100
Successful Woman in 2022, she hosts The Work in Between podcast and authored the
bestselling memoir The Work in Between, released in 2024 by Page and Podium Press.
