Swimming...

Is anyone here a swimmer? I have a question...

I am training for the Triathlon (yippe!!!). It's great, I love getting back into the training routine. I've always been active but there is a big difference between just going to work out at the gym and really training (well for me at least). Well, it's been a little while since I've trained with swimming. So, before a workout I'll eat enough carbs to raise my blood sugar to 200 (I tried lower numbers at first but you'll see my issue here in a second...). I don't bolus (I wear a pump) and I obviously have to take my pump off during a swim workout. Well, within 30 minutes I'm in the 90s...it continues to drop. If I take gatorade with me and sip on that I'm usually ok but the drastic drop in blood sugar without insulin has me confused.

Anyone with any advice??? Thanks!!!

Wow, I can't wait to hear about your training as you go! I'm not a swimmer, I wish I were because it is so good for you. My only suggestion would be maybe lowering your bolus to 50% half-an-hour, or maybe even an hour, before you start your swim. That way there would be less insulin "onboard" when you start yout swim. Hope that maybe helps.

Good luck (I'm a bit jealous!). I'm hoping to train for a half-marathon after this little guy is born :)
