MonaVie???

Has anyone ever tried MonaVie? One of the endocrinologists that I work with said that he has a patient who swears by it.

I love Acai, I was fortunate enough to be in Brazil last December and got to try it out down there (the genuine stuff, not the powder that you get up here). Anyway, I know that Acai has many great antioxidents, which are always nice to have on hand, but usually a lot of the drinks that include Acai are really high in carbs/sugar. But MonaVie is supposed to contain Acai...but perhaps be better?

I'm about to do some web searching on it...but if anyone has tried it out on their own I'd love to know if you've seen any true benefits from it!

I've never heard of Acai or MonaVie. What are they, other than the antioxidant part of course? I mean what is it used for?

Straight from the bottle:

"MonaVie Active is a delicious and energizing blend of the Brazilian acai berry - one of nature's top superfoods - and other beneficial fruits."

From Oprah's website.....

Açaí pulp contains:

- A remarkable concentration of antioxidants that help combat premature aging, with 10 times more antioxidants than red grapes and 10 to 30 times the anthocyanins of red wine.
- A synergy of monounsaturated (healthy) fats, dietary fiber and phytosterols to help promote cardiovascular and digestive health.
- An almost perfect essential amino acid complex in conjunction with valuable trace minerals, vital to proper muscle contraction and regeneration.

The fatty acid content in açaí resembles that of olive oil, and is rich in monounsaturated oleic acid. Oleic acid is important for a number of reasons. It helps omega-3 fish oils penetrate the cell membrane; together they help make cell membranes more supple. By keeping the cell membrane supple, all hormones, neurotransmitter and insulin receptors function more efficiently. This is particularly important because high insulin levels create an inflammatory state, and we know, inflammation causes aging.

So to me, MonaVie just seems to be Acai plus more berries (it also includes glucosamine & esterified fatty acids).

So, to be honest, I don't know what it will do for diabetes (because I have not seen any concrete evidence from actual studies...and it says that insulin receptors will function more efficiently but is the difference enough to drink it each day & how much do need to drink each day...?), but it seems healthy and I know that when I was in Brazil everyone there swore by it!!!!
