Need to find a good Raleigh Dr!

I suspect I have LADA or MODY type 3. I have been ill for a long while now. My Dr won't test me. Anyone know of an endocrinogist or GP with experience with these? Raleigh Endocrine didn't help. Metformin isn't working but no one will listen because my A1c isn't too bad.

I highly recommend that staff at High Gate in Durham, they are affiliated with UNC. Good luck!

I, on the other hand, have had a nightmare relationship with Highgate and met a woman last night at our local Diabetes Sisters meet up who also had a negative experience with another doctor there.  I found the doctor I saw there to be exactly as you described, my A1c was "normal" and she wasn't at all concerned about the metformin not properly regulating my blood sugar.  I would think any healthy diet would encourage fruit as an important part of nutritious eating, but I spike terribly with even the smallest amount of fruit.  It is so frustrating, this darn disease.  We all have different reactions to different meds.  Some people see no change with exercise, some experience great changes with just a moderate 10 minute walk, every body is different and reacts differently.   So I am back to square one and will now just get out of the UNC merry-go-round, because my primary care doctor is also UNC affiliated and so agrees with the endocrinologist over at Highgate and unbelievably just told me to stop monitoring.  just stop, it obviously is stressing me out getting these readings, so just don't go there, stop monitoring!!!!  Are you kidding me?  No one is listening to me!!!!!    I encourage you to go to the Diabetes Sisters meetings in the area.  I'm down in Chatham County so don't get to Raleigh.  I got the name of a doctor out of the UNC network  that has effected great changes for the woman I met last night and I will try that doctor.  I think there are about 4 Diabetes Sisters meetings in the Triangle area, if transportation is a problem perhaps some of the group leaders can call around and get someone to help out and get you to another meeting say out in Durham.....  I think that is the best advice I can give.  Otherwise, talk to your primary care doctor, perhaps they have a name to offer, then call that doctor's office and try to get a 10 minute phone consultation, describe your frustrating experiences with other doctors that are not LISTENING to you and see if you can get a sense whether that doctor and his staff will be more amenable to working WITH you
