Beginning....

I was diagnosed with T2 in November 2011 and have been struggling. I also have narcolepsy and sleep apnea. In March, I quit my job to focus on my health, but I have not been doing that in the last 2-1/2 months!! Just saw my sleep doctor today and I've gained 15 lbs., which I can ill afford with over 150 to lose already!

I have passed a few obstacles that were in my way...my daughter graduated from high school last Friday and I am more adjusted to the non-working lifestyle. So I hope that I am ready to make a determined effort toward living a healthy lifestyle.

So today I'm getting out my diabetes education information and starting over. I'm not setting huge goals. For the rest of the week, I'm going to try recording everything I eat and getting 1/2 hour of exercise each day. At the end of the week, I'll look at my foods, my carb intake and plan for next week.

I also plan to spend tomorrow calling the local hospital to see if there are any diabetes support groups in my area. Might even speak with one of our local non-profits to see if they would offer diabetes cooking classes or other support.

In the meantime, I hope to begin frequenting some of the message boards and forums dedicated to diabetes education and awareness. I know this isn't easy, but I look back at the other successes I've had in my life and know that I can be successful at this also. Besides, my children still need me and I owe it to them to be as healthy as I can be. I want to play with my grandchildren someday.

Welcome and congratulations on your plan. Sounds like you have really thought it all through for your actions and the support that you need.

Please do look around on the website. Not only does it have great and useful information, but contains other websites for info and support.

I am also type 2 and have sleep apnea, using a CPAP. There are PODS, Part of Diabetes Sisters, in various locations across the US. This is where women with diabetes, all types, meet once a month. I just can't say enough about these meet-ups. You will learn so much and gain a wonderful support system. If you would like to email me at joan@diabetessisters.org and let me know if you are interested and your city/state, I will find out if there is a PODs near you.

Good luck to you and keep us updated

Thank you for the welcome. My first day didn't go so great. Had a horrible night last night, so today was pretty much a wash. So I'll just get up and try again tomorrow. I don't want to sit around and get lazy.

Welcome Teresa!

Great new beginning! Congratulations on your plan and goals. Getting support is key, as we all know, words are easy to say, actions are more difficult- especially maintaining them in the long run.

So glad to have you here. Let us know how you are progressing, we are so glad that you have found us!

Hi!! I like how you have made many decisions and we can all help you keep with it when it gets hard, which it sure does for me!!! I have alot of weight to lose, too, and I find that very difficult. I have fibromyalgia and sometimes I can barely do anything without pain, but I must admit that I could do more when I feel well than I do. I guess I am not making good choices sometimes, huh? Well, I hope we can help eachother. My email is suzysee@comcast.net if you want to talk when you are not on the site. God bless you and I'll be praying for you!!
