Type 1 Diabetic: Stay Focused. Be Positive.

Hello Everyone!

I LOVE hearing about everyone’s success stories on managing
Type 1 Diabetes. It’s truly wonderful :)
I think it’s important to be frank and honest about the disease too… it’s a
struggle, at least for me when I was diagnosed at 14 years old. Through the years
of being a diabetic, being a woman, coping with losing loved ones, and tackling
life… now I am a 31 year old woman, who can proudly say that my last A1C was
6.7, but it took me a long time to get there.

For all you Type 1 diabetics out there (and the loved ones
that help manage it on a daily basis) give yourselves a pat on the back! Diabetes
management is a maintenance disease. It’s not always easy but it is doable. We
all know the ups and downs being a diabetic and the toll it takes on us and
those around you. You must work at it every day. Live a healthy lifestyle. Eat
right and exercise often. Be cognizant of your body and surroundings. There are
many factors that you must take into consideration that effect your blood sugar
– food, stress, exercise, non-routine activities…basically LIFE.

If there’s one thing to take away from all that you read
about, know that your blood glucose meter is your best friend! No matter what
you want to do or where you are in life, if you make sure your blood sugar is
in a good range then you can do ANYTHING!

I really want to help people understand Type 1 diabetes, the
effects of the disease mentally and physically and be an advocate to those who
need hope. Stay focused. Be positive.
