DiabetesSisters joined with Rutgers Cooperative Extension, SATHI, and Rutgers Medical School to bring expert speakers, local resources, and community members together on November 18, 2017 in Old Bridge, NJ during Healthy Living with Diabetes: A Forum for South Asian Women. The forum included a panel with clinical perspectives from health care providers and researchers, and a panel on community perspectives from local diabetes prevention, education, and wellness organizations. More than 60 attendees also enjoyed a mindfulness meditation break, and resources from DiabetesSisters, SATHI South Asian Total Health Initiative, Robert Wood Johnson Wellness Center, Rutgers Institute for Women's Health, and American Diabetes Association New Jersey Affiliate. Shailja Mathur, MS, MEd, RDN spoke as a community perspectives panelist and was a co-organizer of the event. She will be a new PODS Leader with DiabetesSisters and she invited attendees to join her in starting a new PODS Meetup in the Greater Old Bridge area in 2018.
