The 2013 Weekend for Women Conference Will Convene Women of All Ages with All Types of Diabetes, Policymakers,

Healthcare Professionals, Business Leaders, Investors and Advocates to Discuss Key Issues Facing Women with Diabetes Today

WASHINGTON, DC (January 1, 2014) – Organizers expect hundreds of women with diabetes from 25 different states to ascend upon Washington, DC for the three-day power-packed Weekend for Women Conference scheduled for Friday, April 25- Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Embassy Suites Old Town- Alexandria. This will be the seventh Weekend for Women Conference hosted by DiabetesSisters and the first time it has convened in Washington, DC area.  

As the only conference of its kind worldwide for women with diabetes, the event offers three days full of opportunities for women of all ages with all types of diabetes from all walks of life to gain the tools, strategies, resources, and connections needed to accelerate their success in every area of diabetes management. Participants come to learn about the latest diabetes products, build their support networks and attend education sessions conducted by diabetes experts and well-known diabetes advocates.  Diabetes Technology Executive, Claudia Graham, MPH, PhD, will deliver the keynote address an share lessons learned from her 40+ years of living with diabetes.  

“This Conference, in particular, is special and unique because attendees will have the opportunity to hear from a multitude of people who are only available to us in the political hotbed of Washington, DC.  This, combined with the innovative session topics will certainly lead to lively, thought-provoking discussions among attendees!” said Brandy Barnes, Founder and CEO of DiabetesSisters.  “As a woman with diabetes myself, I know how transformational a weekend with this level of education and support can be for attendees.  That’s why we’re taking the Conference to three cities spread out across the US this year.”

Registration for the Weekend for Women Conference is $200 and includes light appetizers on Friday, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday, attendance to all education sessions, and many giveaways.  This year, attendees can secure their spot with a $75 non-refundable deposit and fundraise the remaining $125 balance. All funds above the $200 registration fee will support DiabetesSisters’ programs and services.

The fourth Partner’s Perspective Program will take place simultaneous to the Conference at the same hotel. This unique program provides the partners, spouses, and significant others of women with diabetes a forum to better understand the physical and mental challenges they face daily.  Through networking and information sessions, partners gain a better understanding of how to better support their partner in managing diabetes. Registration for the Partner’s Perspective program is $75 per participant.
