Hi and Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. After having gestational diabetes with both my daughters, last May I learned that the blood sugar issue returned in a new form and I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I started on insulin but then read a book by Dr. Gabriel Cousen's called "There is a Cure for Diabetes" and very soon after I attended a three- week retreat at his healing center in Arizona called "Reversing Diabetes". The principles are based on a RAW food diet using low glycemic vegitables and limited fruits. Once I started on this strickt diet, all of my blood sugar readings went right back to normal. I stopped the insulin and I had A1C readings of 5.5 and 5.9. Not to mention, I feel better than I have in my whole life. The idea is that this raw food diet is actually a healing diet and can repair dysfunctions in the body. I have really seen it work for me. However, this last time I checked, still staying strict on the raw diet that I absolutely love, my A1c is up to 6.7 (still off insulin). I am wondering now if I may be putting myself in harms way by not doing insulin. Also, does the body get addicted to the insulin if I was only to administer it when I was occasionally high? Also, my doctor is supportive of my efforts and did not insist that I start insulin again at this point. She did suggest we could try a type 2 oral drug which could possibly help the absorption of the insulin I am still making. What are you thoughts?
