Frank Lavernia, MD, has been a practicing diabetologist in South Florida for more than 35 years. He was the founder and director of the North Broward Diabetes Center in Florida. He is an adjunct faculty member of the National Diabetes Education Initiative (NDEI), Vascular Biology Working Group (VBWG), and for the Coalition for the Advancement of Cardiovascular Health (COACH). He is also a member of the American Diabetes Association, American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, European Association for the Study of Diabetes, and the National Hispanic Medical Association. He is a new member of the DiabetesSisters Board of Directors.
Kelly Schmidt, RD, LDN, is a registered dietitian and nutritionist. Her journey into the world of nutrition began when she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 8. Kelly is the owner and dietitian coach at Kelly Schmidt Wellness in Columbus, OH, where she helps clients worldwide. Kelly lives the silver lining of having diabetes by helping those who are trying to understand their autoimmune conditions better. She believes, from every minute of her training and managing of blood sugars, that real food is the key to health - stating "my grocery list is my prescription pad and my kitchen is my pharmacy". Lori Zanini, RD, CDE, is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. Lori then went on to complete her dietetic internship at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC where she was clinically trained at Duke University Hospital. Additionally, she completed the CDR Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management in 2008. Lori has spent more than a decade of her career helping thousands of individuals thrive with diabetes, through delicious food! Working one-on-one with clients for so many years gives Lori a unique understanding of what individuals struggle with and what resources they need in order to be successful in their goals.
