I am working so hard with my new exercise program. I don't mind the aches and pains, but the exhaustion is really getting to me. It is not just being tired. Even if I get extra sleep, sometimes I feel like I can't function. Could it possibly be that I'm not eating enough? The one thing that has happened is that my morning glucose levels have gone from between 135 and 165 to less that 120 which is great, but I feel awefule most of the time.

Do you feel like your blood sugar level is low (shaky, sweaty, irritable, etc)? I have heard of this happening when doctors try to bring people's blood sugar levels down too fast when they have consistently been at a high level; say somebody was used to a blood sugar of 300 and the doctor brought it down quickly with a shot or rapid acting to 90. They may start feeling low at 170, even though they are not low.

This has also happened to me when my blood sugar is falling rapidly. I don't know if that is contributing to your exhaustion, but I have realized as I have gotten older that it takes me longer to recover from lows than when I was a resilient youngster! Are you having any clinical lows? (below 80mg/dl)

I wish I had some real advice or suggestions. There are just so many things it could be. On days when you aren't exercising, do you feel better? Are you simply doing too much in addition to exercising? Are you stressed? What is blood sugar running the rest of the day? The first thing that popped in my head was that you were experiencing that new low that Brandy mentioned or just generally over doing it, not just the exercise itself but life in general just gets overwhelming and exhausting. What's the quality of your sleep? So many things you would need to consider....
Hope you are feeling more energetic soon.

I think I've figured out part of what is making me feel bad. I'm not sure if it is related to exercising or diabetes though. I noticed earlier this week that my feet were swollen. Last night when I was changing clothes, I noticed they were even more swollen and my ankles were as well, especially my left leg. I knew my legs felt odd yesterday, but again, I thought it was from working out. I'm going to drink as much water as I can this weekend, and if it's not better Monday, I'm going to the doctor. That also explains why, even though I'm working out harder than I ever have, I've gained 5 lbs!

I called the doctor today during my planning period. I talked to the nurse (who was not the nurse I usually talk to) and she said to put my feet up, keep an eye on it, and if it doesn't get better to come in. I was supposed to go in to see my trainer this afternoon, but I decided that going home, putting my feet up and resting was a better idea. Hopefully I will fill better tomorrow and my feet will go down.

Donna,
What's the latest? Did you find out what was going on?

I haven't found anything out yet. I can't get in for a diabetes check until next week. I don't think it is so urgent that I needed to insist on getting in sooner. I took it easy all weekend and have not pushed such hard workouts which seems to have helped. I've noticed that my blood sugar is dropping pretty quick now, probably because of working out so much. I'm trying to monitor my level really close and we careful what I eat along with drinking plenty of water. I'm also trying to get the rest I need. I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing. I hate how diabetes can make you feel like a hypochondriac. :S

My feet and ankles swelled up again this week. My toes were even fat yesterday. My daughter freaked out a little when she saw my feet last night. She didn't think I should go workout this evening but should come home and put my feet up. I've been very tired as well. This is all very frustrating. I'm anxious to get to the doctor on Tuesday. It's probably nothing, but I am tired of thinking about it.
