Ladies-- (esp. those who have dealt with diabulimia)

I thought you might be interested to read the news article titled, "Restricting Insulin Doses Increases Mortality Risk" under the News tab at the top of the Home Page. I am interested to hear feedback on this article....

Ugh, I just wrote up a nice message that was deleted bc I got signed off, so here we go again: :S

I shouldn't have read this article at work, since it solidified so many things that have terrified me for years. I struggled with diabulemia for almost as long as I have had diabetes and only over the last few months have I gotten over my hump and done exceptionally well (measured by my own standard ;)).

I don't think the article itself is very surprising since we know that high blood sugars, no matter what the cause, increases the risk for complications and shortens the life span. I think, however, that there is such a higher risk with those suffering from "diabulemia" because the goal is to make sure that your blood sugar is high. It isn't just neglecting your care or being lazy about it, for me it was a concerted effort to make sure that at all times, my blood sugar was high...VERY high. It was as high as possible while still maintaining some ability to live, and at times barely even doing that.

I wrote a lot more in my previous post, but I think now I am a tad emotionally exhausted...I will likely comment again, though. Please know this: if you are suffering through this, you have to fight it! You have such a strong support system here to do that, and you have a support system in me as well! I know how hard it is, but I did it and so can you! And I promise, no judgment here :side:

I think this is just another re-cap of the basic fact that we all know--better control, better life. Everyone knows that we should do what the doctor orders! :silly:
