Hi Everyone, I'm new to this diabetes business and have had a rough start. I was diagnosed in November 2011 and treated as a type 2 probably because of my age, 54. After seeing several specialists, one who took me off of basal insulin and left me with oral meds only, and a trip to the hospital with Ketoacidosis, I have finally found a doctor who determined through blood tests that I am a type 1. Now that I'm on insulin at meals and off of glyburide/metformin, I am feeling Really good. I lost 40 lbs due to lack of enough insulin and ketone production. My weight seems to have stabilized now and I am on the mend. I am so thankful to have found a doctor who is passionate about helping people with this disease. I have so much to learn about carb counting, insulin and timing. I'm up for the challenge though and happy, happy, happy to be alive and feeling good again. Insulin is my new best friend :) Thank you for listening. It's wonderful to have a forum like this.
