Hi, I'm New!

Hi, I'm Yen and I just found this site while browsing diabetic living. I'm 28, married and a proud Army wife. I literally just found out on Tuesday I have diabetes. A part of me kind knew because it runs on my dad's side of the family, but at the same time, it still terrifies me to know for sure. Since finding out, I have cut down on sodium and sugar and the scale looks promising.

Anyways, I'm horrible at introductions, but wanted to say Hello!

Welcome to the sisterhood! A big thank you to you and your husband for taking care of the good old USA.

You will find lots and lots of information and links to reliable sources on our website. I have been a member for the last 3 years and it has truly made a huge difference in my life. Please check our events calendar to see if there is a PODS meeting near you. It is nice to meet with other ladies just like you and it can truly be a great support system. I know it can be overwhelming in the beginning, but sounds like you are already on the right path. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. Are you a type 1 or 2? Once again welcome.

Thanks for the welcome :)
I'm not sure what type I am... I'm going to guessimate type 2. I know my blood result finally came in and I have this annoying feeling like the doctor is judging me. I have been doing my own research and when I tell him things I discover... he gets annoyed and scoffs at my findings. I'm really glad I found your site... haven't explored much, but it's definitely a comfort esp when my husband deploys this summer. Its okay. I got the girls! :)

oh, i am sorry that your doctor apparently feels challenged. He should feel great knowing that you are taking charge and educating yourself. I hope maybe you can find another doctor? I am so lucky that my doctor wants me to be educated, she is constantly giving me new websites or programs. She pulls her chair over to the exam table and draws me pictures and writes me notes. Please ask away on here for information. These ladies have lots and lots of information. Nothing like someone speaking from experience. Take a look under the expert advice tab. They would be thrilled to help you out with questions or pointers. Let us know if we can help you in anyway. Stay in touch and maybe we can lift your spirits while your hubby is gone. Keep up the good work!

HI Yen, Welcome to the site. I think you'll get valuable information and support here. Be sure to get your information from reliable sites like here, the american diabetes association, Joslin diabetes site, Mayo clinic etc..... There can be a lot of misinformation about there. If you find that your doctor isn't patient and supportive, try to get another one! Good luck to you!
