I didn’t realize I was pregnant until I was about 7 weeks pregnant. Ooops. It was good news but not totally expected because my husband and I were just starting to consider whether we might need medical help to get pregnant. The first diabetes management change I made after I got over the surprise was to reduce the high alert on my CGM from 160 mg/dL (8.9 mmol/L) to 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L). My pre-pregnancy A1C was 6.0%, so my control was already tight, but in the land of pregnancy, the tighter the better so long as it can be done safely.
